Ulmus / Elm

Athena Classic was discovered by Dr. Michael A. Dirr in Athens, Georgia, and developed by Athena Trees, Inc. Athena Classic has a compact rounded habit. The foliage is darker than the species and the multi-colored exfoliating bark very nice.

The most DED-resistant of the cultivars released, Princeton is a fast-growing AMERICAN elm.  It has much larger leaves than chinese elm varieties and has straight, fast-growing branches.  It is strongly upright in habit in youth, later forming a tall graceful canopy.  It is currently planted along Pennsylvania Ave and at the White House in Washington, DC.

Allee Elm is an upright-spreading tree similar in shape to American Elm. The bark exfoliates in a puzzle-like pattern exposing light gray and orange brown colors. The lustrous green leaves create a dense canopy and turn to a subdued yellow in fall. This tree can withstand drought and is highly resistant to Dutch Elm disease.

Introduced by Tree Introductions, Inc., Bosque is a wonderful Chinese Elm selection. Bosque has a central dominant leader with strongly ascending secondary branches, a pyramidal shape and a fast growth rate. Leaves are a lustrous dark green with a nice yellow-orange fall color. It works well as a street tree because of it's upright shape.
