Trident Maple Trident maple is a nice smaller maple. It works well as a small patio or lawn tree and can even be planted in planter boxes. With many attributes of the larger red maples, trident maple works well in well-drained acidic soils. The leaves are tri-lobed and have a nice red fall color. Trident has no serious disease or insect problems. Mature size is 30 feet high.
