Taxodium distichum
Bald Cypress
Bald Cypress is a distinctive deciduous conifer-like tree with an upright pyramidal shape. Leaves are pale green needles that are soft to the touch and turn a reddish copper color in fall. It matures to a large size and has a reddish brown bark with shallow fissures. Even though it is a native to southeastern wetlands, it is surprisingly drought tolerant. It can withstand partial shade and is great for shade, buffer or reclamation plantings.
