Loropetalum chinense
Zhuzhou' Loropetalum
A purple-maroon leaved evergreen, 'Zhuzhou' is the most upright form of Loropetalum. We grow it full and tree-form and it makes a very nice large shrub or small tree. The flowers are a deep fuchsia-pink that occur from March to April and often again in the fall. Requires slightly acidic soil and has a fast growth rate. On tree-form plants, the bark exfoliates in large strips. 'Zhuzhou' is an excellent replacement for crape myrtles where something 'different' is desired.
